Bin collection by suburb — what to expect

Most Redlands suburbs have the same bin types, but collection days vary by street. The council assigns a consistent day of the week to each zone. If you are in Cleveland, Capalaba, Victoria Point, Redland Bay, Thornlands, Ormiston, Wellington Point or any Bay Island, your day is set by your address — not the suburb alone.

    2026 public holiday collection changes

When a public holiday falls on or before your scheduled day, collection for the rest of that week is usually delayed by one day. This affects:

    • New Year's Day — 1 January
    • Australia Day — 26 January
    • Good Friday & Easter weekend
    • Anzac Day — 25 April
    • Labour Day — first Monday in May
    • King's Birthday — first Monday in October
    • Christmas Day — 25 December
    • Boxing Day — 26 December

Council publishes the full holiday schedule each December. Bookmark the official bin collection page for the latest changes.

    Missed a collection?

Leave your bin out until the end of the next business day. If it still hasn't been emptied, report the miss to Redland City Council on 07 3488 8888. Late collections are common after storms or on hot summer days when truck routes slow down.

    Bigger bins and extra bins

Council offers 240L upgrades and additional recycling bins for a small annual fee. Most applications are processed within 10 business days. Apply through the council's online waste-services form.
