You don't need to drive into the city for a good date night. The Redlands has bowling lanes, golf simulators, a winery, waterfront seafood and some of the cheapest movie tickets around. Here are five date spots for every budget and every stage, from a nervous first date to a long-overdue night out.
1. Thunderbowl, Alexandra Hills: the playful first date
Cost: $$ · Best for: first dates, rainy nights
Bowling takes the pressure off. You've got something to do with your hands, something to laugh about when the ball goes in the gutter, and an easy way out of awkward silences. Thunderbowl sits right next to the Alexandra Hills Hotel at 332 Finucane Road. It has 10 lanes, an arcade, pool and darts, plus food and drinks from the bar.
- Price: $21 per adult for one game, or $35 for two
- Hours: open from 10am daily, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays
- Make a night of it: grab dinner at the pub first, then bowl, then settle the score on the arcade machines.
2. Birdies Bayside, Redland Bay: the competitive one
Cost: $$ · Best for: sporty couples, rain-proof plans
Birdies is an indoor golf centre with six simulator bays and more than 2,300 world-famous courses on screen. You don't need to be any good. Pick a famous course, take turns, and have a laugh at the shot replays. Bays are booked by the hour and fit up to four players, so it can work as a double date too.
- Price: visitor rates start at $30 per hour per bay off-peak (Mon–Thu before 4pm), with higher peak rates
- Hours: bookable from 5am to 11pm
- Make a night of it: book an evening bay, then head out for a late dinner in Redland Bay or Victoria Point.
3. Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton: the "dress up a little" date
Cost: $$–$$$ · Best for: anniversaries, long lunches
When you want it to feel like an occasion, head up the hill to Mount Cotton. Sirromet's Cellar Door does wine tastings seven days a week with no bookings needed: $15 standard or $20 premium, six wines of your choice each. The Tuscan Terrace restaurant serves seasonal Queensland produce and opens for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday.
- Heads up: Tuscan Terrace is an outdoor venue with no air conditioning, so dress for the weather. Book ahead for dinner.
- Make a night of it: start with a tasting in the late afternoon, then stay on for dinner on the terrace.
4. The Lighthouse Restaurant, Cleveland Point: the sunset date
Cost: $–$$$ · Best for: bay views, any budget
Cleveland Point is about as romantic as the Redlands gets: water on three sides, island views, and a heritage lighthouse from 1864 (read its story here). The Lighthouse lets you choose your budget. Book the waterfront seafood restaurant (open daily, 11am–9pm), or grab fish and chips from the takeaway and eat them in the park across the road.

- Make a night of it: time it for sunset, then walk out to the lighthouse with an ice cream.
5. Cineplex Victoria Point: the budget-friendly classic
Cost: $ · Best for: cheap dates, regular date nights
Dinner and a movie never goes out of style, and Victoria Point makes it affordable. Cineplex at the Lakeside precinct on Bunker Road has standard tickets listed at $10.50 (October 2026 sessions), a cheap candy bar and nine cinemas. One of them is a Deluxe cinema that serves alcohol in an adults-only setting, if you want to upgrade the night.
- Address: 27 Bunker Road, Victoria Point
- Make a night of it: eat at one of the Victoria Point restaurants before an evening session. With tickets this cheap, it's easy to make it a regular thing.
